Monday, January 23, 2012 San Jose-Okayama Sister City Organization has announced the dates of a scheduled trip for Youth to Okayama and other parts of Japan. Leaving from San Francisco on June 19, 2012, the group will return on June 29, 2012. Because of the unfortunate disasters occurring in Japan in 2011, the previous trip was cancelled. Thursday, April 14, 2011 Due to concerns based on the tragic events of March 2011 in Northeast Japan, we have postponed the June 2011 Youth Ambassador trip to Japan until late Spring 2012. Thanks to all who worked hard to qualify for the trip and we are hoping next year will see some of you with us.

Recommendation letter:
You must obtain a recommendation letter from one of your teachers at school. You may include an optional letter (up to 2 letters) from other individuals or organization. The letter should be put in an envelope and sealed by the evaluator with his/her signature at the closure of the envelope.
Application fee(s):
Please include a check for $35 made to with your application. If you are also entering the T-shirt contest, please click the appropriate box at the end of the application form and include an additional $15.

Essay Contest:
Any student who is currently attending a public or a private high school in the Silicon Valley areas is eligible to enter the essay contest. The 1st to 3rd winners will be awarded a certificate and other prizes for a total of $300 in value. If you are not applying for the trip but wishes to enter the essay contest, please write an essay (250 words) and submit it with your name, address, name of high school, grade, and phone number and send it to the Sister City Committee at the above address with the entry fee of $15.00. Please make the check payable to “SJO escrow, 181‐297068‐9”.
T-shirt Contest:
We will be ordering a T shirt for the trip participants. These T shirts will also be given as our gifts to the host families in Okayama. Use your creativity to design an unique a unique T shirt. Draw your design on a 4-8 sheet of paper or print out a digital copy and send it with your name, address, name of high school, grade, and phone number and send it to the Sister City Committee at the above address with the entry fee of $15.00. Please make the check payable to “SJO escrow, 181‐297068‐9”. You may use any design, letters, scripts, fonts, but only two colors.
