2012 Youth Trip to Japan Announced

San Jose-Okayama Sister City Organization has announced the dates of a scheduled trip for Youth to Okayama and other parts of Japan. Leaving from San Francisco on June 19, 2012, the group will return on June 28, 2012. Because of the unfortunate disasters occurring in Japan in 2011, the previous trip was cancelled.

You may apply to go on this chaperoned trip by filling out the form below and sending other information by email or by downloading the Word document (.doc) at this link: application, filling it out and returning it as shown on the form. If you cannot download this form, you may request it to be mailed to you at secretary@sj-okayama.org.

The San Jose-Okayama Sister City Committee is pleased to announce its first Youth Ambassador Trip to Japan. Selected high school students will represent the San Jose area and participate in various cultural exchange and educational opportunities in Okayama and other major cities in Japan including Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Osaka.

Ø     Gain leadership experience by representing the sister city committee

Ø     Experience daily life in Japan through home stay in Okayama

Ø     Interact with Japanese high school students and participate in community services

Ø     Awarded an official certificate to of ambassadorship from the City of Okayama and the San Jose-Okayama Sister City Organization

Application qualifications:

  • Students who are currently attending public or private high school in the Silicon Valley area
    (priority will be given to students from schools in San Jose)
  • Has cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • No Japanese language experience is necessary although highly recommended.

Application requirements:

  • Completed application form (includes 2 short essays)
  • Letter of recommendation from one of the teachers at school
  • Copy of your transcript
  • Application fee of $25

*The expected trip fee is $3,700 including airfare, other transportation and accommodations. This price may fluctuate slightly depending on the aircraft fuel cost. The ticket price will be fixed at the time of payment.
